Rich Huynh
Assistant Coach

Rich Huynh comes to Occidental College with an extensive coaching background. Huynh started his coaching career at Alhambra high school. From there, Huynh became a volunteer assistant coach at Cal State LA from 1998-2001.

Huynh also have experienced coaching in the junior college level as he was the assistant coach from East LA College (2002-2004) and Rio Hondo College (2008-2009). At both junior colleges, Huynh’s primary responsibilities were to recruit, game and practice preparations, scouting, and training position players, in particular setters.

Huynh also coached the top 18's team for Starlings Hacienda Heights Volleyball Club in 2010 and Starlings San Gabriel Volleyball Club in 2005-2010. Huynh lead two different volleyball clubs to a 2nd place finish overall, capturing the silver medal at the Starlings National Tournament in 2009, 2010, and 2011. In 2010, he assisted the Starlings San Gabriel 16's team which captured the gold medal and finished 1st overall. In 2007, Huynh also lead his 16-1 team to finishing first place, earning the gold medal at the annual Starlings National Tournament.

Rich Huynh also coached at Bishop Amat High School from 2009-2011. In his first year as the head girls' volleyball coach at Bishop Amat, Huynh lead his team into the CIF Southern Section playoff - first time since 2005. His Varsity team also won the 25th Annual Whittier high school volleyball tournament. In the three years that Huynh was the head coach, he led his girl's varsity team to three consecutive post season CIF playoffs.

Huynh is currently working and teaching in Pasadena. He is also the head coach for the UCLA women’s club volleyball team since 2012 where he has lead the team to a top 10 finish nationally every year.

Huynh graduated in 2001 at Cal State LA with a B.A. in Child Development with a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential Option.
